Tooth pain from infection or damage doesn’t have to mean losing the tooth. A root canal saves it. At Inspire Dental & Orthodontics, we use modern techniques to make root canal therapy quick, comfortable, and completed in most cases in a single visit. We accept Medicaid, CHIP, and most PPO plans, and sedation options are available at all three DFW locations.
A root canal treats infection or damage deep inside the tooth -- in the pulp, which contains the nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected from decay, a crack, or injury, bacteria spread quickly and the pain can become severe. According to the ADA's MouthHealthy guide, a root canal is not a cause of pain -- it is the cure for it. The procedure removes the infected tissue, disinfects the inner chamber, and seals the tooth so it can stay in your mouth for years. At Inspire Dental, most root canals are completed in a single 60 to 90 minute visit.
The reputation root canals have for being painful is outdated. With modern local anesthesia and technique, the procedure itself is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. The pain patients fear is actually the infection before treatment -- the root canal is what ends it. Most patients are surprised by how manageable the appointment is.
Persistent or Severe Toothache
Deep, throbbing pain that doesn't go away -- especially pain that worsens when biting or applying pressure -- often signals pulp infection requiring a root canal.
Prolonged Sensitivity to Heat or Cold
Sensitivity that lingers for more than a few seconds after exposure to hot or cold food and drink suggests nerve involvement inside the tooth.
Darkening of the Tooth
A tooth that has turned gray or dark may indicate internal pulp damage or death -- a condition that often requires root canal treatment to prevent spreading infection.
Swelling or Abscess
A pimple-like bump on the gum, facial swelling, or a foul taste in your mouth indicates a dental abscess -- an infection that requires urgent treatment. Same-day care is available.
Cracked or Chipped Tooth
A crack that extends deep into the tooth can expose the pulp to bacteria. Depending on severity, a root canal may be needed before placing a crown to restore the tooth.
Deep Decay
Untreated cavities that reach the pulp chamber can no longer be treated with a filling alone. A root canal cleans the infection before the tooth is restored.
Tooth pain that may need a root canal shouldn't wait -- infections spread. Inspire Dental accepts Medicaid, CHIP, and most PPO plans and offers same-day appointments at all three DFW locations. Call now or book online.
Book a Root Canal ConsultationRoot canal therapy at Inspire Dental is a calm, methodical procedure. Here's exactly what happens from the moment you sit in the chair to when you leave with a restored, pain-free tooth.
X-Ray and Evaluation
We take targeted X-rays to assess the infection, confirm how many canals are present, and plan the procedure. We explain everything we see before starting.
Anesthesia and Sedation
Local anesthesia fully numbs the tooth and surrounding tissue. Sedation options are available for anxious patients. We don't proceed until you're completely comfortable.
Placing the Dental Dam
A thin rubber sheet is placed around the tooth to isolate it, keep the area dry, and prevent contamination of the canals during the procedure.
Accessing the Pulp
A small opening is made in the top of the tooth to access the pulp chamber, where infected or damaged tissue is carefully removed using precision instruments.
Cleaning and Shaping the Canals
The root canals are cleaned, shaped, and disinfected with antiseptic solution to eliminate all bacteria and prepare the space for filling.
Filling and Sealing
The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible rubber material called gutta-percha and sealed to prevent any future bacterial entry.
Temporary or Permanent Restoration
A temporary filling is placed if a crown is being made in a follow-up visit. In some cases, a permanent filling is placed immediately if a crown isn't required.
Crown Placement (Most Cases)
Most root-canal-treated teeth need a dental crown to restore full strength and function. We discuss this before you leave and schedule the crown appointment.
Root canal therapy at Inspire Dental is performed by a licensed dentist using modern rotary instrumentation and digital X-rays. We take the time to ensure the area is completely numb before beginning, and we explain each step as we go so you know exactly what's happening throughout.
We accept Medicaid, CHIP, and most PPO plans for root canal treatment. Benefits are verified before the appointment. Visit our Patient Resources page for payment options. If the tooth cannot be saved and extraction is required, we'll discuss dental extraction alternatives and replacement options at the same visit.

Mesquite, TX
I was absolutely dreading my root canal. The dentist at the Mesquite location talked me through everything before starting and made sure I was completely numb -- I felt nothing the entire time. Took about an hour. I drove myself home and went back to work the same afternoon. Honestly no idea why I waited so long when I could have stopped the pain months ago.

Garland, TX
I had a severe infection and was in so much pain I could barely sleep. They got me in the same day at Garland. The root canal was done in about 90 minutes and I felt relief almost immediately -- the pressure was gone. They explained Medicaid would cover it, walked me through the crown appointment, and followed up the next day.
